OK my SV that I picked up the other day wont start. I think its a dead battery!
I haven't passed my DAS yet so cant take it out for a ride. Over the past 3 days I have had people come and have a look at my new pride and joy. I have started it up at least 5 times, but the bike has never moved anywhere. The datatool system 3 thing has been doing my head in, and gone off at least 3 times too, as well as the constant nudge sensor thing letting me know that i'm touching it. When I tried to start it this evening (sad, I know, but its my new bike and I like the sound of the engine!) it wouldnt start. I hear a clicking sound from what is probably the starter motor and can see the light dim and the LCD display dim. Is this a flat battery (bike is less than 2 years old)? Also, are the lights on the SV permanantly on when the ignition is on or am I just so lame I don't know how to turn them off!!! If it is the battery, which charger do I need to get? Any recommendations? Cheers for reading, a new SV owner ![]() |

Because you said lights on perm, is it a K3+ bike or euro import?
I think a standard charger should be ok, i have a halfords one that has a switch for car or bike batteries. Output in amps is diffrent.

lights are always on,best battery charger is the optimate 3 and those alarms are a bloody pain in the ar@s! my old kwak did it all the time it chew'd battery's and if i left it for more than a week i just got that dead clicking sound! best bet is to get the charger @£39.99 and hook it up when not in use.

Thinking of lights...
Do you still put the sidelights on on the pointy SVs by turning the ignition all the way to the left (past off - like on the curvy?) If you do then it's best to make sure you've not done it before leaving the bike, or you'll definitely flatten the battery. Felt like a right muppet calling the AA out for that one ![]() Here's another good one too: I've got a datatool evo alarm (I think. It was already on the bike when I bought it) which must have a battery back up of some kind. If the bike battery drains flat slowly it won't go off. If you disarm the alarm and the battery is flat, then when it auto rearms the alarm will go off. And if the bike battery is flat you can't put the alarm into valet mode. So you have to sit next to the bike with your key tag blipper disarming the alarm every 30 seconds until the AA man arrives ![]() |
