Default Is my speedo cable broken ?

Got on bike earlier on, noticed that the speedo needle wasnt registering.

Sometimes it moves justs a little it'll wobble up to about 10mph and the drop back down again.

I had a new speedo drive a while ago and the symptoms are similar, but there isnt the constant clicking / squealing noise that I had when the speedo drive failed before.

I think therefore that the speedo cable is broken.

Thoughts....

Thanks

Fizz

Check the speedo drive, if you've had a simialr problem before it's the obvious place to start.
Cable wise it could be damaged such that it makes intemittent contact, check where the cable runs past the lockstops - a common area for the cable to get trapped - if it's been pinched a bit and is either shorting or making poor contact it might explain your problem.

A bad battery connection, or connection to the clocks, could do that as well... But the number one suspect would be the wee rotor in the speedo drive.

Mine got caought behind my stop locks and the cable was pinched, so I would get the needle jumping around all over the place. I just dropped it out, cut, rewired and taped it up... Its a bit fatter there now but works just fine.

It sounds like the drive. When mine broke there was no clicking sound.
I believe it got damaged when the mechanic replaced the front tyre. Have you had the front wheel off recently. It is very easy to break it if not paying attention to it.

Might be a stupid question, but have you actually taken the cable off yet? That'll be the easiest way to see if it's busted.
