Default Uprating the shock and mounting the battery

I've got my eye on a Kwak ZX6 or ZX10 shock and was just wondering where to mount the battery once the shock is fitted? Can you still squeeze it under the rider's seat or will it have to be moved?

Also, does the shock off the '98 ZX6 fit?

Cheers
Jase

For the ZX636 shock it depends on what model you have. The B1H shock has a smaller resovoir and allows the battery to be fitted in the same way as a GSXR shock, but the earlier ones will need the battery to go under the rear sear.

A ZX10 shock has the same resovoir design as the B1H shock so same applies.

I have a ZX636 pre B1H shock so my battery is under the rear seat with extention cables running for the connection. The tool kit is under the front.

This is the only one on ebay at the moment.

I guess that is what you are looking at. Well yes it will fit. Will need cutting of the undertray, new lower shock bolt from a GSXR (buy new from Suzuki). If you want the battery still under the front seat you could buy a Yamaha R1 (i think) battery which is thinner than the SV one and it will fit but not recommended if you do lots of small journeys. Some thick wire (i used the same wire as for car amps (from Halfords), and some terminal connectors.

If you can wait for a B1H shock. Or just get a proper one new from Hagon or the like.

Cheers buddy, I will be looking at a "proper" one from Ohlins or the like in the future, but just needed a cheap option to tie me over until I have more money as I'll be getting new fork springs shortly and the bike will feel a bit imbalanced.

I was hoping not to have to mount the battery under the pillion seat, but will consider that Yam battery (but I think it's the R6). I should be able to get away with it as I ride over 10 mile journeys pretty much every day, and rarely use it for journeys less than that if at all. I know there's some issue with the rating of the battery, but hopefully I'll get away with it.

I cant understand why people would want to replace a worn shock, with another worn shock even if it does have adjustment etc???

If you read the description on that one, it says the shock has only been used for 1000 miles according to the seller. Now even if that's not 100% accurate, it still looks from the picture like it's barely been used.

Point taken, but the main reason is the stiffer spring for me as well as the better adjustment as I'm a bit heavier than the Japanese which the SV was designed for.

Fair enough, but you wouldnt put second hand rubber on your bike...or would you?

(puts fishing rod away)

Yes the R1 battery is generally the one people mention. The main factor is to get a battery with the same or better CCA (cold cranking amps) capacity. I have one of the later 636 shocks so was able to make a little 'floor' above the reservoir to place my battery on. All leads etc are original.

Sounds like I'm probably best going for the later 636 shock then, which is quite handy seen as someone's outbid me on that other ZX6 shock!

I'd rather not start playing around re-mounting my battery under the rear seat as there's little space under there as it is!

Otherwise, which model GSXR shock fits with minimal disturbance? (Bear in mind my bike's a 2000 model). Does the GSXR1000 shock fit?

nop a GSXR1000 shock will not fit a curvey. I beleave none of the K series GSXR shocks will fit. Look for a pre SRAD GSXR shock. Problem is that they are a tad old.
