Default 16,000 rpm

It's fantastic, isn't it!? I have - rightly or wrongly - been sticking to the factory run-in procedure to the mile...so 1000 miles pops up yesterday and I went off to find a dual carriage way or similar to try it out on...ended up having to go all the way out of London, 45 mins odd!

Anyway so again...directed to those (many) of you that have moved to GSX-R 600s...brilliant! My face is permanently like this

P.s. I only tried 1st and 2nd!!

It is indeed fantastic . Best thing about owning a gixxer is EVERYONE wants to race you, but you can have a smug grin whilst sitting at the traffic lights with chav boy revving his engine, cos you KNOW that as soon as the lights go green, within a few seconds he will be a tiny dot in your mirrors .

Also - I love coming up behind cars doing anything over 10k rpm - they move out of the way instantly, then you give it some stick and overtake them at full revs - that is my commute to work every day .

I had a test ride on the new Honda Hornet 600 yesterday thinking I should maybe consider a slightly more laid-back and practical bike - best thing I ever did cos it convinced me 100% that I never want to own a sensible bike! Compared to my gixxer it felt like Iwas riding a bmx! Far too upright, felt like there was no bike beneath me and sounded like an electric bike, I was bored after 5 minutes - the Gixxer stays!

Yes, you're getting old, that's the problem.

In all seriousness compared to the SV (650), there isn't as much of a torque difference as people make out. Compared to a thou v twin, probably a lot of difference!

It might be considered buzzy but I love it and that rush at the top end!

Matt, like your overtaking style I do that when cars are tailgating me lol, just show them a quick burst of acceleration to show them the bike is farrrr superior in acceleration to their car, and I am just choosing to go at the speed I am at. LOL!

gsxr makes more torque from about 8000rpm anyway. Its in such a higher state of tune than an SV, i don't know why everyone think they've got no torque

I agree - Admittedly you need to give it a fair few revs to pull away from standstill, but after that I find the GSXR has more torque pretty much at all revs than my SV ever did. I used to hit the rev limiter on the SV quite frequently and found it really frustrating on big open roads and motorways.

As Muffles says - on the Gixxer you can happily keep it around 5-8k rpm all day and be well happy with the induction roar and speed, but then when you NEED to show a car driver what real performance is, whack it past 10k rpm and get your face sucked off

'Tis why I love my Hornet. Peak torque at about 7'000 rpm and screams all the way upto 13'000 before it hits the redline. My Zed 1000 goes upto about 11k before redline but it gets there so quick it's scary! I actually prefer the buzzyness of the 600 Hornet but the speed and noise of the Zed are impressive. The Zed has so much torque it's like a V twin with a few more revs. Looking to trade it in for a ZX6R though, I miss SS600's!

Because they've not ridden one.

Tis pretty much why I didn't like my Ninja 6 (which incidentally did not require quite so much revving as the new ss6's)
I just don't like thrashing the beejesus out of machines.
Perhaps I should get a 'Fatboy'
