Default Trip to Nurburgring - idea forming - input welcome

Hi,

I have been looking at doing another track day in the UK, mid summer you are looking at £160ish for Outlon Park (which is the one I want) I also want to do a Europe tour some time this summer, just a long weekend, 3 - 4 nights.

SOOO I got thinking and reakon a trip to the Nurburgring would be flippin GREAT!

Leave on the Friday am - v early, drive down south to ferry and across to Germany (maybe eurostar??) then across france and into Germany, head straight for the track, get into hotel for 10pmish on friday night. early night then to the track saturday, 9 or 10 laps at approx £10 per lap (dependant on exchange rate) would give you as many track miles as the average track day.

Early night sat, head for the mountains on sunday for some wicked roads - route to be investigated.

early evening sunday either head for france or carry on and all the return leg on monday, monday contunue/start ride home.

2000miles incredable roads, one of the greatest tracks on earth and a big mother of a grin!

Comments, ideas, possible routes for sunday?????

I'm guessing the 600 miles to nurburgring will be all dual carriageway (for speed) track time followed by trip home will mean a new set of tyres are needed upon return to uk but I reakon it would be worth it.

I think £400 including petrol is feasable - though that could grow with food and beer depending how much you have!!

Went to the Nurburgring year before last in my mates Porsche - was great fun!

If I was to go again I think to save mileage on the bike I would go Seacat from Harwich to the Hoek van Holland....

Well worth it though - I am going to the TT this year (missus wont allow two biking holidays in one year!) so a trip to the 'ring is a must for next year!

To be honest the roads in Germany that I went on were just big, open and fast! Being overtaken whilst travelling at 110mph by a VW Multivan TDi was an experience! Didnt venture too far off the main roads but didnt see anything like a British "B road".

The Eiffel mountains are a beautiful area though, and even if the roads arent up to much, the scenery and the whole 'ring experience more than makes up for it!

Oh and it was part of a trip round Europe that we did so I cant say on a direct route there and back...

I organised a trip last year that a couple of people off here came on.
Just posted about organinsing a trip for this year

http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=33349

The roads around the Nurburgring are great. They are fast, curvy and have a great surface.
We definitely found having a guide a massive plus. We would have easily got lost otherwise or ended up following the boring straight roads.

On the nurburgring itself we had Neil guiding us the whole time. We switched places behind each lap and only went as fast as the front one of our group wanted. Neil signalled all of the braking points and made sure we pulled over when cars where wanting to pass. After we had finished the laps (5 was enough) we went to some different viewing points and watched the newly arrived Brits on their R1's GSXR's 1000's etc. They were having to try and learn the track as they went along and most were crawling round. Not that we were going really fast, just quick enough

exactly the reply I was hoping for! I have followed your links and emailed Neil, hopefully I can get enough of my mates so I can do my own trip, but if not could I join yours? I'd be traveling down from liverpool so would be doing similar milage to you.

where did you find Neil's website?? It's great and JUST what i'm after!

Thanks!

Decided I wanted to go last year so looked around for nurburgring information and found his site.

Would probably be a laugh as a big group if you fancy going at the same time?

Big group would be good, but ever been the one left behind in a big group? or wizz off in front and get lost? I have done both and it sucks!

I find smaller groups best personally but I'm not aversed to trying a big group again!

I'm gonna chat to a few of my mates on the weekend and see if I can get something sorted as far as dates go, plus the more I have read the more it seems best if we travelled tuesday - track on wednesday, tour thurs, back friday to avoid peak time at the circuit, would be rubbish to have to keep slowing to let cars past on the weekend (which is peak time)

If I can't get enough (i reakon 4 would be best) then I will drag whoever I can to join your group.

I would really like to organise something like this, so I would prefer to try it on my own (though it could go HORRIBLEY wrong!) just to say I have done it!

Keep me posted with updates and I will do the same!
