Default Help Guys - Flooding?

Hi guys, for the past couple of days my bike's been playing up.

When riding the bike, at low revs it seems to flood when I try to pull away, it stutters and then comes back to life.

Immediate thoughts: crud in the carb(s)
flooding the carb(s)
misfiring cylinder?

What else might it be? I have a fender extenda, so its unlikely to be water, and both exhaust downpipes are equally hot so there's not one cylinder not working.

What else could it be?

Cheers guys (and girls)

Jake

Check the condition of the plugs if one (or both) are soot black, the bike's running very rich.

Check you're getting a good strong spark off both plugs.

Undo your carb drain bolts and check nothing but nice clean fuel comes out the bottom, any watery rusty, floaty bits are a sure sign of water and gunk in the tank

Best of luck

Hey, I've started having the same problem with my '00 as well.

I've checked the fuel system and pulled the carbs to clean, then I went to check the electrical and found the ignitor coils to be coming up way short of the spec'd voltage.

Chased it back through the coupler and down to the starter. Found the starter to be good, but came back with a weird resistance reading from the white wire. Not sure how it all fits together, but I'm going to do the carbs tonight and see what that does.

I'll let you know how it turns out, but if you find anything else on yours in the meantime, let me know.

Got similar with mine, very intermittant but really bad when low on fuel so i'd imagine its crap in the tank

And check for water in the carbs.

Hmm, was riding to work today, it cut out twice at lights at the beginning and mid/end of my journey, but then stayed alive when I got to work

Well, tis the weekend tomorrow, the ER5 will be fixed, and I'll be riding that to work.

Also my Dad suggests it may be the electrics, as it is cutting out at random times.

Maybe a liberal spray of WD40 will help...
