Default Portable air conditioning

Anyone got any experience of these - or dehumidifiers. I'm going to need one as the landlord sets the heating and it's like an oven. They've got one in Staples for £180, a 2.2kW thing - any good???

We've got some big ugly R2D2-looking thing in the kitchen that does everything- humidifies, dehumidifies, heats, cools, makes sudden scary noises for no reason in the middle of the night... It was, I think, about £100.

Remember, if it's drawing 2.2kw all the time it'll cost you... only about 15p per hour but it soon adds up if you use it all the time.

Yes. Landlord pays the leccy bill I don't want to clobber them though, they're very nice and we get on well. Don't know if a 2.2kW thing would be too feeble. Not a big space - say 50m3.

Depends on how much heat the land lord is pumping into the place, but 2.2kW is fairly decent for a stand alone unit.

Do you plan on keeping it to use though the summer? As a guess, it should be able to keep you reasonaly cool, but it may struggle on the hottest days. This could vary a fair amount depending on room aspect, window size/type, whether the room has an exposed roof, heat sources in the room (computers, people) etc etc

Also, depending on how efficient the refrigeration circuit in the unit is, you wont be drawing anything near 2.2kW from the mains - 6-800W would be a more realistic figure.

In the winter, I flash the missus up - she can blow enough hot air to keep all of Plymouth warm!! And if I ask for a bit 'how's your father' in the summer, she can get quite frosty!!

Have a word with the landlord first. Every 1 degree he drops the heating he saves 10% on his bill!!!
