Went camping twice in Scotland last year (week in July, long weekend in September), and had plenty insect repellant spray to keep the Scottish Air Force at bay. (that's the midgies incase you didn't know
![]() After the first trip I couldn't work out why I had a smudge/smear type thingy on part of my visor which wouldn't clear off. It had a rough feel to it, and I thought at first it had been a large bug/fly or something like that. However, on the second trip it got worse and I noticed that the smudgy/smeary thingy was getting bigger and that it was caused by the top layer of the visor coming off. What had been happening was that once the tents were up, there were so many of the little midgie TW*TS in our tents that we were very trigger ![]() ![]() ![]() I was really p*ssed off cos the helmet was new for the beginning of "last season", and I've already had to fork out for a new visor. It has also taken the shine off the rest of the helmet, it's now a bit "DULL". Just thought I'd mention it, so if you're thinking of going camping make sure you do actually pack the helmet cover/bag. |

I would be looking at getting a new helmet actually.
If its eaten your visor, it may not have left visible damage to your lid, but I wouldn't risk it. If its an Arai, send it to get tested, otherwise treat it as a lid that you had an off in/was knocked off a table. Expensive advice I know, but the only advice I can give you David |

I wouldn't say it's eaten the visor, it's as though the very top thin layer of laquer has come off, you can still see through it, just cloudy, so therefore no good for night riding. As for the rest of the helmet, again it hasn't damaged it, it's just taken the sheen off of it. Had the helmet back to Hein Gericke where i got it from, and they've telephoned whoever they telephoned that's in the know about these things.
It's all ok to use, just p*ssed me off that a £280 helmet had to have another £35 or what ever the visor was spent on it, and what was shiny is now not so. |
