Default Cold on morning commute - does it make you drowsy all day?

Seriously suffering here. Can't concentrate at all. No other symptoms and got decent enough amount of sleep last night. Is this due to the cold ride in? anyone else get the same?

*shivers*

Are you sure you ain't just driven to the newsagent in your car and picked up this weeks MCN??

There is an article all about cold, the headline reads that it is worse to be cold than drunk on a bike. Having been both (I know, it was years ago and I was VERY VERY STUPID and won't do it again!!) I can confidently say it is FAR worse and scarier to be drunk!

I ain't read the article yet but I imagine it will be a classic MCN headline that when you read the story is actually complete fiction.

I still buy it every week though.

Yeah I know you lose cencentration when you are cold, but I'm talking about after you have got in the office, warmed up a bit, and still have trouble concentrating. I'm probably just under the weather.

MCN is rubbish. You can stop and have a coffee and warm up, you can't sober up by standing next to a heater can you? Only bought that rag once...

I have to say this could hold some weight. Lately I've been really tired all day at work and have had much less concentration (than usual). It snowed on my way in today which was nice. M25 with snow.....joy!

I find the cold weather wakes me up, I can be drowsy as hell, but once I get on the bike i'm wide awake...

Till I get off again but its not the cause

Being cold is not good, I don't know about it making you drowsy, but it can slow you down, and quite possibly make your reaction times slower than that of a drunk

I think the drowsy effect is from trying to warm yourself up too fast, you should never get cold in the first place

There is no reason to be cold when you ride, no matter how cold you ride, there is heated gear available, everything you need to be as toasty warm as you want.

I have ridden as cold as -12F, that's somewhere around -25 in celsius, and not had a problem keeping warm

im a skinney (read toned :P ) guy, and when im on the bike in days like today i look like the micheline man, at least four layers plus jackey and any more i can fit under there...i like warmth...but sometimes you just just cant have it all warm, there are always gaps, like in the helmet..(thinks about balaclavas...hmmm)

pride is not the issue for me, warmth is, even for footy, i had seven layers on on saturday...(yes i feel the cold really badly...) I swear the stalk got it wrong and i was supposed to be born somewhere warm, like florida or spain at the very least!

I only wear one more layer, the one with electric coils in it. no need to have a zillion layers either, it begins to hinder your mobility, a windstopper balaclava

if it's real cold, don't be afraid to use duct tape to seal seams, wind chill at speed in some of the temperatures I have ridden are aproaching -50°C
