I have recently booked another holiday to a rowdy resort in greece where i know that bike can be rented out very cheaply - however they are usually quite dangerous - last time i was there you had to specially request a lid and you turn up to the rental shop in swiming trunks and flip flops and drive off on a yam xt 600.
I must admit it is very dangerous, but also so nice to ride along half naked through the hot mediteranian air with the sun directly above. I did see a few spills while i was there last. a young lad had crashed a quad bike through a glass shop front and there was blood every where. Do u guys rent bikes on your hols? and where do you go?? |

Remember it's not cool to wear a lid abroad, drive on the left side of the road so you feel at home, and if you can't jump an XT over a Hertz rental car by the end of the holiday you're a big girl's blouse!

No - far too dangerous for me in the "Med" resorts:-
Crap bikes (i.e. poorly maintained) Crap roads No safety equipment Crap riders Crap drivers Too many ****ed up tossers (both on the road & pavements) If you think it is worth the risk then go ahead However, I would love to tour US/OZ/NZ/Canada on a bike - have looked a couple of times at doing a West Coast/Rockies route but cannot justify the cost.

I hired a XT in Marbella from a proper bike hire place. Horrid, vibey thing it was, I hated it. And I couldn't get a lid to fit, the one I had gave me a cracking headache. A lid is compulsory in Spain. The bike hire cost was, I think, €60/day.
Incidentally - do think carefully before setting off without safety gear, and check the terms of your medical insurance to make sure it covers you if you have knowingly or recklessly put yourself in danger. You might find an exclusion clause for this sort of thing. |

If you want an adventure hire a bike in Thailand, apparently they drive on the left but it seems to be dependent on if you can be bothered. Don't hire a large bike as they'll want your passport as a deposit and repairs can be very expensive.
Best fun I had out there was on a Honda C90 with no brakes to speak of. Going along coast roads and if I wanted to slow down had to drop a gear and lock the back wheel. Uphill more fun gun the throttle on the way down and hope you get up the other side. Shorts a must or you won't get your Patong Tattoo from the exhaust |

Reminds me of a stroy i heard from a mate who went to Thailand, him and his mates had a Tuk-Tuk grand prix.
They all chipped in a few hundred bart then found themselves a tuk tuk complete with mad thai drivers and told them who ever can get them back to the hotel 1st wins the kitty...he said he'd never been so scared in his life...sounds good fun too me. Advisable to be plastered at the time that way your fear levels go down and also it wont hurt as much if your driver trashes his pride n joy ![]() |

I went to Cyprus last month and hired a Honda Shadow....well it was a V twin so it sounded pretty good.
I had an excellent time. warm(ish) weather, good roads cracking scenery and not much in the way of traffic once away from Paphos. Pretty cheap too....I only paid £40 for three days....it was worth haggling a bit as they were glad of the business out of season! Worth taking your own helmet though! Cheers |
