Default Fitting heated grips

Hi all,

Sorry to ask what might be a simple thing to some, but I want to fit my Hein Gericke heated grips myself without paying out for a garage to fit them, I thought I had an idea on how to do it, but I don't.

I read the article on the "How to section" of the forum but I did not get it. I can do anything related to I.T. but bike mechanics are new to me.

I ride a K5 SVS and I would like to set them up so that when the ignition is off the grips stay off.

Can anyone help me out, steer me in the right direction?

Cheers

Rich

(Not ashamed to admit when he does not have a clue!)

I have an 01 SVS and fitted heated grips, I took the switched live from an orange (with yellow trace) wire just below the fuze box (under seat), it is nice and convenient to hack into there and being the fan feed wire, doesn’t ordinarily need to carry much/any load, ideal. You will need some bullet joints/crimps or at least a soldering iron and heatshrink to make a neat job of the join. The –ve you can just wire direct to the battery.

I don’t have a wiring diagram for a K5, but probably the same colour scheme? If you can find an online diagram I would be happy to take a look and suggest possible ‘tap’ points. )

Cheers

On the pointies there is a spare slot in the fuse box at the tail. Plug the live into that and the neutral to the neutral on the battery. Viola, switched heated grips.

Fitting the grips them selves can be a lot harder, so it's worth doing the wiring properly for piece of mind.
