O.K. Bike will be on the road in a couple of weeks time and I was thinking about going to town on the downpipe and getting it polished up bigtime.
Probably be the only time I do it in the season. So what do you's guys recommend? Don't mind a bit of time consuming work as I have a while before we are reunited once again. I know its probably been asked before, but hey, maybe theres some wonder product that has just appeared on the market. |

i did mine with wet and dry paper. start with about 400g and work your way up to 1200g and then add wd40. then polish with solvol. it is quite time consuming first time but after that it,s dead easy. i polish mine with wet and dry once a year and it stays good just by washing and a little solvol from time to time

Alright, I JUST did this a few days ago. It took me about 20 mins.
First of all, take the down tube off, it makes it way easier and I'm sure cuts way down on the amount of time. Then get somme polishing wad - the stuff I got here is called Eagle One Never Dull and it comes in a little tin. You just pull a peice off, then start rubbing. That wasn't fast enough for me though. So after you get your working area covered in the polishing compound, grab some really fine steel wool. It works way faster than whatever material makes up the wadding. Have a rag handy as you'll want to wipe the surface off every few mins - the compound and the grit you'll be removing will mask your progress. If your arms don't hurt after about 5 - 10 mins, you're doing something wrong... ![]() |

All sounds like hard work to me. Personally I've got this stuff:
http://www.commaoil.com/Product%20Pa...leting/awc.htm You can pick it up in Halfords too. Literally just spray it on, wait a minute(if your downpipe is rusty then agitate it like the instructions say with the brush thats provided) and then rinse it off. Hardly any elbow grease needed at all. Just make sure you don't get it on the paintwork or breath it in. |

i used a green pan scourer dipped in autosol and then dipped in some silver sand (driveway sand) it comes up like new but soon dis-colours again so you have to keep on top of it.

Kwak seems to have the right idea. Ive autosol'd it with some water. Ive also used Astonish Oven Cleaner as its quite abrasive. Combine the both and it works a treat.

autosol alone didnt do it for me, you do need an abrasive to cut into the cheap suzuki downpipe and then like i said you need to keep ontop of it because it soon dis colours again.
