Default Battery

I'm doing the SRAD shock mod to my CURVEY and I'm wondering can you get a gell battery for the SV, because I want to lay it down under the front seat. How much are they and how good are they?

Default Battery

It's not a gel battery it's a liquid acid one as standard. You cannot lay one of theese down because the acid will leak out.

Have you considered moving the battery to under the back seat?I don't know of a gel version for the SV,but I would guess one from a different bike would do.

According to Yuasa
http://www.yuasabatteries.com/yuasa0...2006yuaapp.pdf

their YTZ range are all factory activated and are the only versions which are suitable for installation in any orientation. Read the blurb and decide for yourself though. Might be worth contacting them to confirm.

I have a YTZ10S in a Deauville and it is a little gem as far as starting goes. The 10 is physically smaller than the stock curvy SV battery, the YTZ12S is about the same size, both have much higher cranking currents than a stock unit.

Reasonable prices here

Ive got a standard Yuasa for the curvey which has been on its side under the rear seat for more than 6 months without any sign of a problem. The issue of acid leaking out usaly applys to the vented batteries not the sealed ones. It does not seem to ever run out of power, i have had the bike layed up for several months and came back to a bike that would still crank over strong for ages and fire up.

Won't the change in weight distribution change the centre of gravity thus causing a major change in handling? The battery is heavy, is it heavy enough to cause a problem?

From what i have been told, the battery under the rear seat should not be that bad as its located above the spindle of the rear wheel. Why that ok i dont know though.

Standard factory fit for a curvy is a YT12A-BS - allegedly a sealed, gel-filled item. Certainly the one in mine is a YT12A-BS and is gel-filled and sealed. That's in spite of the official workshop manual talking about filling it with electrolyte and showing pictures of how to do it. Go figure, as they say.

Mine certainly has a Gel battery, I haven't seen a lead acid battery in a bike for years
