Default sv starting troubles

my g/f has passed her test,
got the SV out of the garage today, tried to start it with no joy.

when the starter button is pressed, the starter motor wirls as it should, it tries to fire, but doesnt quite get there.

instead i get a fast clicking sound from under the front seat,
took the seat off, but the clicking sound is not coming from the battery, but just under the rear of the fuel tank.

dont think the battery is dead, as the lights are all working fine, and normally, the starter motor slows down before it starts clicking,
this is a very fast clicking/wirring sound.

whenever the bike is left for a few mins, press the starter, it just about fires, before the fast clicking sound can be heard again.

gonna try leaving the battery on charge tonite and seeing if it starts any better tomorrow, but i doubt the battery is flat cos all the lights are working, and they dont show any sign of fading or anything like that.

please help as she is dying to get out and ride her SV for the first time

its a fully faired K2 if that helps.

This does sound like a weak battery. That ‘clicking’ is going to be the starter relay. I hear what you say about the lights, but it takes a lot less current to power the lights than to start the bike, so it is not that strange the lights are working yet the bike won’t turn over.

Hopefully with a good charge everything will be fine, else a new battery might be in order

If after a charge you still get the same, then try using jumpleads from a car to help. With this extra power you still get the sound then, then there is deffo something wrong!

Lets us know the results after a charge, I bet a weak/low battery that is all it is!

mabe,

but im pretty sure its not the battery, usually the starter dies a bit before the clicking noise occurs, this time it didnt.

maybe a bit of corrosion on one of the battery terminals

have you got an alarm/immobiliser?

i had trouble with two meta units that one caused my bike to stop while i was riding, and then it just wouldn't start on my driveway

So you are saying it is turning over and clicking?

not at the same time, either one or the other, sometimes turnover - click -turnover.

sometimes just click
