Default Headlight Conversion

I'm new to the site so firstly, Hi!
I've recently passed my DAS test and now need to get my 2002 K2 on the road (bought it a couple of months ago and it's been in the garage ever since).

Apparently it needs the headlight converting to UK spec, I've got a unit but the wiring is a little beyond me. Can anyone give me any pointers? I've had a quote for a UK headlight loom and it's 75quid, if there's a way to use what I've got I'd rather do that than shell out more cash right now (insurance has been a big hit this month already ).

All help gratefully received!

Try looking on ebay for a loom.

You could try modding it yourself, you would need an extra H4 plug and wiring diagram, a few snips here and there and joins here and there and it should work fine. I have not done it though.

There are several people who still have standard Euro headlights on their bikes and still pass the MOT, so mabey you can stay the way it is at the moment.

Wouldn't worry about it too much, unless you've to put the bike through it's MOT soon. For that, you can place tape over the lens to deflect the beam and it should pass OK. Did for me last year The MOT's coming up again soon but I've got a UK headlight ready to put on. It doesn't really affect day to day riding, but at night you do get the odd cage driver flashing their lights at you. That's why I decided to get the UK spec headlight because I don't want to start blinding every driver I pass.

Beam deflectors are cheap, effective, long-lasting and pass MOTs (in my case, twice!!).

Is your bike naked or faired? I'm pretty sure my naked X curvy model dips straight down.

The bike's a faired version. Thanks all for the pointers! Especially about keeping the current headlight in place. That should enable me to get out a bit sooner (the MOT is due and it's booked in next week!).

I was riding the Mo'sickle last night and noticed that the headlight is poor. Had to keep main beam on all the time. A quick look see to see which new bulb will brighten my life.

the problem you'll face is the EU lights are one H4 bulb ,missing the high beam connection (could be a H1) and a projector light (just for high beam).

you need to identify the earth wire (common to both), then get two H4 connectors (I used "car spares") a couple a quid each, fabricate a common earth on both and wire in both high & low beam to each (so high beam will be from the projector light, low from the other), cut off the plug from you front loon where it joins the main loom and solder it on to the new wiring, job done, took me about 10 minute, don't worry about distroying you current front loom, you wont ever need it again.

Cheers Mark.

When you say you got a unit why did you not get the loom with it..... when I got my unit I got the loom for £10. I changed it over because I preffered having 2 lights on instead of 1..... I got fed up with folk pointing out that I had a light out

Hi all, got a friend to gimme a hand mangling the existing loom, 40 mins work in the end did the job and past the MOT!

I bought headlamp unit from Redcar Motorcycles, that was just for the main unit and rubber covers, no loom unfortunately.
