Default Dead Battery from hot grips - New one?

Well I got up this morning to take my bike (SV650S K4) out to go to library so I could crack on with my dissertation and put the key in turned it - nothing! SH*T!!! Checked everything. Was working fine a few days ago so only thing I can put it down to is hot grips were left on accidentally and have drained it since Thursday. DOH! Have taken it out and stuck it on the otimiser (altho that is a good few years old now) and no lights are coming on at all. Is this to mean I am going to have to invest in £60 for a new battery cos of a stupid mistake? I am so hacked off with myself! If I leave it on the optimiser for a while do you think it mayt start to charge or should I just cut my losses and shell out the cash? Eeeekk b/f gonna be so hacked off!

Any help be appreciated.

Shiv

P.s. if anyone know where I could get a battery for a it cheaper would be most appreciative.

No lights on the optimiser might mean that the optimiser is duff - do you have a voltage meter to check the battery & whether the optimiser is actually optimising
Try jump starting it from a car

Default hmmm

No I don't have a voltage meter but I do think the optimiser may be duff. I have had probs with it in the past so maybe it is knackered - it is about 4 years old I think. Have texted my mate and asked him if it is worth jump starting from a car. May need to buy a new optimiser though - any idea how much they go for these days? Mate suggets jump starting too but I don't have any jump starting leads and wouldn't know the first thing about jump starting! Call me a stereotypical girl!

I had the same problem with my heated grips, dead battery and my optimiser refusing to charge even with the grips switched off. I found that if I disconnected the grips switch section from the battery and chucked it in the bin the charger worked fine. So you may like to try that.

I took the battery out completely anyway to charge it as I don't have electricity going into my garage.

Turns out my optimiser was duff and I now have borrowed one off my mate and its charging. Hopefully that will sort it. Will keep ya posted!

Thanks for all your help

Shiv

Default Dead batteries:

If a battery goes completly flat modern chargers like Optimiser will not always recover it. You need an old type charger to "bang" some current in it to get it started. I had this trouble with my daughters car battery that the alarm had completly flattened and this technique recovered it. I am sure somebody will post the technical reason for this. I cannot rememberit myself!

Well I used the optimiser and it brought it back fine and its been ok since yesterday now. Hopefully that has sorted it and the more riding I do the better the battery will get. Fingers crossed - at least I didn't have to shell out £60 for a new one! Woohoo
