Depends exactly what you mean... The discs are semi-floating, which means they're not mounted solidly to the wheels, there's a little play in them.

yeah realise that they move a little i think mine move about 2mm but my mates tl1000 ones dont move at all it was the scruitineer that picked up on at racemeeting and didnt really want to let me out it did not affect braking performance though

Shouldn't be that much, I think. The bobbin/rivet things can come loose, from memory, though I've never come across that.

Right I'm assuming that there is no play from the carrier itself where the disc is bolted to the wheel, and it's all between the carrier and the braking part of the disc itself. I've never had more than a very little movement there, are both discs the same? How many miles has the bike done, and do the actual discs look worn at all?

Edit: Look online or in MCN etc and there are companys that will fit new braking parts to old rotors so would be able to help I guess.

Yeah, mine do that too. R/h more so than left.

Do you get a dull clunk noise if you rock the bike fwd and back with the front brake on?

I'm sure replacement bobbins are available, never bother ed to track them down myself. If you find someone give me a shout!

I'm not a heavy braker, discs are barely worn at 22K on original pads.

They are called float buttons. They are designed to move laterally. ie side to side. This is to prevent vibration when braking. They are hardly supposed to move forward or backwards at all. Lateral movement is quite normal and to be expected. Forward and backward movement however is not to be expected. At least not to the degree that you have mentioned.
