Default Fuel consumption

Hey Hey

After my first week of riding: lots of hacking up and down motorways, a fair amount of town work and a few country roads, I have been anal enough to record milages per tank of fuel and work out that I'm getting about 165 miles to the tank and therefore about 50-60 miles to the gallon. Since this is my first 'proper' bike (a Vespa hardly compares somehow!), let alone an SV, I am not completely up to speed about a great deal of things technical with my new baby. Is this fuel economy good, bad or different to other peoples' experience? Any comments would be greatfully received....

160 is exceptionally good, i only get about 120 miles to a tank if i'm lucky, it can go down to about 90 when i'm ragging it in the summer.

Oh yeah, one other thing. In the manual, it says that when the fuel draps below 3.5 litres the fuel warning lamp starts to blink and then when the fuel gets down to 1.5 litres it stays lit. Mine bloody didn't stay lit and therefore I ran out of fuel on the A1 down past Grantham. Has anyone else had this problem?

That was the first time I had filled up my tank so I was unaware of exactly how long 3.5 litres would last and so now I have taken to resetting one of my counters every time I fill up and just refill at between 120 and 150 miles regardless.

What model bike have you got, the different years do different things. Curveys flash and then go solid as does the K5. The K3 and 4 models just flash. I think thats right, there definatly different.

I do 120 miles a day on a tank before the light comes on with 4 litres left. So technically I should be able to get 160 miles to a full tank. I have a 99/00 Curvy btw. I tend to fill up as soon as the light goes on, unless it times it just as I fly past the last services on the m20 with 18 miles to the next junction
