Default mini motos A start

I have only just seen this and pinched from another site

Quote:
Court orders bike to be destroyed

A TEENAGE boy had his Christmas present a 200 Mini Moto quad bike confiscated by police the first time he rode it, a youth court heard.

The 16-year-old was caught riding the bike, which the court has now ordered to be destroyed, without working lights and indicators on land off Thompson Street, Ribbleton, Preston, on December 29 last year.

He had been given it as his main present just four days earlier on Christmas Day, but had found problems with the lights and had been pestering his mum to return it to the shop to be fixed.

She had agreed and they took it out to the car. But, as the lad waited, the temptation to play on his new toy proved irresistible, Preston Youth Court heard yesterday.

Pleaded

He was found at 12.30pm that day by police and yesterday pleaded guilty to a charge of riding the bike without lights or indicators.

Johyn Lloyd, defending, said: Mum tells me he had pleaded with her to take the bike as it needed some repairs. He had pestered her to take it to the shop.

She said, Go and put it in the car, but before he put it in the boot, he could not resist having a ride on it.

He said the boy had admitted his guilt and added: He has also given up the bike and he did it willingly. Well, Im sure it wasnt that willingly, but he has given it up!

In effect, he has lost his Christmas present.

Magistrates fined the boy 25 for each offence and ordered him to pay 35 costs.
OK A start only 1 million to go.

But why the simple offences of lights/indicators. As a quad I assume it must be registered/insured for him to ride on the road yet unlikely as it is claimed to be a mini moto, plus as a quad would he not also need a "Car" licence and therefore have to be at least 17 etc.

Sounds like he got away lucky

Although i agree that the kids riding them on the paths CAN be dangerous to other people, they won't seriously damage you (but they can hurt....).

TBH, the police, yet again, is going about this totally the wrong way....

Its a massive thing in this country, but are the government or anyone setting up small tracks on wasteland to get the kids off the street?

Nope, instead, lets waste more police time, more court time, ruin this kids christmas and generally act like the miserable buggers most of them are.

I mean, they are such a dangerous thing. Glad to see they are spending more time on petty things like this than serious stuff (i heard last night the convicted rape numbers double from last year.... Good stuff eh, what about immigration, car theft etc... )

I've not ridden mine in about 1.5 years now becuase of the new rules. But theres no-where to go to ride it on a proper track....

Ridiculas.!!!!!

You can do yeah, but theres only Buckmoore Park around here. There used to be a few blokes who setup a track at Catford Dog track, but they arn't there anymore.

So, to ride one, really you nbeed to spend £50 every time you take it out (to a track).

Thing is, its not hard, and i'd love to design something like this, but again, its all about money and im not going to fight to try to get a grant.

WE used to go to an Asda after it shut on a sunday, make a track up out of cones and go racing around. I've got some vids if you want to nose (I might have already posted them, but can again).

I do understand about teens blatting them aroudn the streets around small kiddies, but if they had somewhere to go im sure they would.

Typical UK way of dealing with things, lets just ban it and try to ignore it rather than work a way to safly do it and keep everyone happy...

yeah, we've got a mini trail bike and it's tricky to find somewhere to ride that too. They've basically got all options sewn up with horrible punishments (destroy bike, points on licence, etc).

Personally I'd rather kids had a field to go ride these things in rather than causing trouble because they're bored

Sorry but I think that sucks! By all means give him a caution,it says he was riding it "on land" not on the highways? Talk about taking a sledge hammer to crack a nut!
