hey guys, just found your site, and i am interested in getting an SV but a restricted one. has anyone else on here ride a restricted one, or has riden one? if so can you guys tell me what it rides like, where does it affect the performance? and is it worth doing?

I've got one!
I have the official suzuki kit in which is a shame as it costs £70 to get them back out (i.e to buy the original slides!!!) Of course it's worth doing.,..to stay legal. The restricted sv is still a lot of fun, perhaps more fun than full power as when you're redlining it everywhere, you're not breaking the law by TOO much, unlike the full power one. Well worth it. Just like the full power one without as much pulling power and is slower at it's top end by about 25mph or so. Maybe 35mph. Well worth it. |

hey buddy
so you definately recommend it yeah? what top speed you done on yours? does the restriction only really affect the top end? oh and isurance? any suggestions? cheers, andy |

yeah i got a quote off bennetts for like £1103 but that as on third party only. . . . so i dont really know if thats a good deal or not? i aint got a 125, i had an rs50 but it broke. . .cause it was C*AP!!!! so i got rid of that after bout half a year. . . now finally looking to get another one. . . |

MOTOR CYCLE DIRECT
i had my sv restricted untill last year defo worth it, its like having a ne bike after the 2 year restriction motorcycle direct were/are still my insurers, my first year was about £800 fully comp, but i was 19 with 2or3 years no claims tell us where you are, put it in your profile |

![]() I've a restricted SVS. It was just right for me for my first bike after passing my test. I think if I'd had it full power, I would definitely have had an accident...or two! But so far, I've managed to stay rubber side down. With the restricted bike, the acceleration is very good I find, but after about 70mph the bike struggles. You can't just drift by the traffic on a carriageway, say, as a full power bike could (but you'll always smoke the cages at the lights ![]() I'm four months off being derestricted and I can't wait now. For the first six months after passing my test, the 33 horses were enough but after that I was counting the months till derestriction. If you're old enough to go Direct Access, then my advice would be to do that and just take it easy for the first few months. Or alternatively you could still fit the restrictor kit and once you are more confident on the bike you can get it taken off. As for insurance, I paid 1200 TPO when I was 17, with one year's NCB. Second year I paid 800 TPO with two years's NCB. As instigator says, it varies from one guy to the next. I think you should go for it, whatever way you choose. You'll notice one hell of a difference between the RS and the SV!! Just make sure you get a curvy ![]() |

mite sound dumb here. . but curvy??
anywho. . thanks for the info guys thats a real help. . . hopefully looking at getting the bike about 3/4 of the way through the summer hols, got just a bit more saving to do. with the top end speed. . .can you put different sprockets on to make it different? oh and will having an alarm fitted bring down the insurance by much?? cheers |

SVs are usually split into curvies which is the rounder shape before 2003 and the pointies which are the 2003 onwards. Its down to which shape you prefer. I had a pointy, others prefer the curvy model which is cheaper.
Restricting and derestricting a pointy can be a lot easier than curvies, with the pointy its just a case of switching the ECU. I didn't have an alarm on my SV, when I looked into it, it would knock about £20 off the insurance but it cost a couple of hundred to fit. So I didn't bother. |
