Default Avon Azaro ST versus Roadtec Z6

Ridden on Conti RoadAttacks for the last 8K miles, hadn't had any complaints but they're the first tyres I've had so don't know any better. Getting square and a bit rough looking now so time for a change.

Read lots of reviews here and decided on the Z6, phoned my tyre bloke and he quotes me for those, but says he has the Avon ST tyres for £23 cheaper plus a puncture warranty, they warm up quicker and just as good as the Z6. Not much on the ST here but I reckon I'll give them a go. Beg to differ?

Ask the dark overlord that is Rictus. I think he had shares in Avon at one point. His words where something along the lines of..'They are greak, they move around a lot which i like' or there abouts.

I dont find the z6's move around at all. If you liked the contis, then you will probably like the avons.

I have never touched Michelin or Dunlop as they are way overpriced.

Just had a set of Avon Vipers fitted today and had a good ride to scrub in. A little dissapointed they were not as pointy in profile as previous sport spec Avons, but grip is fine so far especially the front hard on the brakes. Big difference to the OE dunlops. (Easy to lock, age to warm up)

Went for them as oppossed to the ST's.............err, cos a wanted a treat!?

Have used AV45/46 for about 30,000mile all types of riding(nutter/2up touring) on a GSX14. A heavy torque laden thing and been well pleased with miles Versus grip.

Anywayz they look cool as feck, n' the 190 is nearly 200mm.........so the 160 will look fat!

Oh dear ........ a tyre tart!!

8k out the tyres, sheesh, My bike (and me) just popped the 9K since March and Im on rear number three Even with my gentle well controlled riding style, don't listen to the SWS bunch.

First set were OEM Japlops, not bad but went off very quickly after 3.5K. I changed to the Avons front and rear at just under 4k. What a transformation (for my riding style anyway). The bike falls in to the corners easier. For me its more neutral steering though as opposed to oversteer. Rear was shot after 5K though, still legal (2 mill) but way past its best, profile was stuffed. Just stuck a new rear Avon on and it's smile time again. I'll have to change the front in about 1k though. For the fun I think they are worth it.

personal opinion...i have had the avon st s for about 4000 miles now and i think they have another 1000 in them, maybe 1500, and thats pretty average riding, and they are squaring off a fair bit now...and tyre pressures etc have all be checked regularly.

i find them pretty good in the dry, but, and this a BIG but, in the wet they are shocking, horrible, nasty, the manifestation of evil. They grip only a little, anything more thatn pretty upright angles and they slide, apply the brakes a little and they feel like they will let go, any more and they do let go...

like i say this is my experience and opinion, some poelpe find them fine, i however will not be buying again, even though the ffront will probably last another half a rear, i just have no faith.

Will probably be going with z6's or strada's next.

my advice, go with the z6, up to you wether you take it though

I guess a lot of this goes down to riding style for wet weather performance. This is differences in preference will really stand out.

I can only comment on the original OEM Dunlop 220s, In the wet they were OK, actually a lot better than I expected. The Avons though are better (for my riding) even when going square. Can't comment on the others. I'll probably keep with the Avons on the SV for the forseeable future. Ride smooth and the grip level is very good.
