Default Cat & Fiddle OR the A5004???????

Hey,

Since I passed my test and got my SV 12 months ago I've been on the cat & fiddle a few times but ive also been on the A5004 (Whaley Bridge to Buxton lookin over the Goyt Valley).

Personally I prefer the A5004 to the Cat n Fiddle and when I mentioned this to my cousin he said he's heard a few people say that!

So what is your opinion? Anyone else feel the same???

I don't like that cat and fiddle at all. Snake pass and some of the other roads are better. Hartside is a far better road in surface and in scenary...

I love the hartside.. and so does Amarko5.... he will no dought put his 2 penith worth here too.
BUT... I really love the Masham to Leyburn road then west on the A684 toward Hawes, North or South.... from there... North is the Buttertubs , and Murkar..Askrigg then back to Leyburn... OR....
South towards Ribblehead viaduct railway bridge... then toward the Whitescarr Caves then on to Devils Bridge, north to the A684 again then back to Hawes and home again.... loads of Fast roads, Twistys and Tea + chip butty stops.... BIG two from me.

Hey UMA,

I totally agree. I think Long Hill is a far nicer ride than the Cat. There are no lorries, less traffic, better views and just a nicer ride. I regularly do a circuit from Whaley to Buxton then to Ashford on the A6. Then round through the Hope vally and back to Chapel and I find it a great run. If you want I'll be doing it tonight probably if the weather holds and you can come along?!

Stop it numbers, you are making me want to get the SV out, I was talking with Lynne last night about probably taking the SV upto the cottage at Askrigg that we have use of. Those roads are so naughty that they deserve a damm good spanking

But as much as I would like to do it today, my current alcohol level is still too high. My guts feel like I have been punched, my head fels like it is in a vice and I think a bear has pooed in my mouth

I completely agree. The A5004 is a superb road One of my other faves is the one that goes from Hope, through Edale and you end up in Chapel-en-le-frith eventually. It's got a dead twisty bumpy uphill bit that never fails to make me laugh

I think you mean Winnatts Pass, really steep and twisty?! Have you ridden the road from Baslow to Hathersage that then leads on to Hope? Its been resurfaced and its twisty as hell, great road with amazing views. Shame the weather is so crappy or I'd be going out on it now!

I don't know what it's called but it's good fun I usually get there via Snake Pass so I don't know the Baslow one I will have to search it out though - sounds excellent
