Default Wider Rear Wheels:

Does anybody have experiance of fitting a wider section rear wheel to a curvy SV. Preferably one from another model Suzuki.

somebody somewhere has. I've seen pics. And someone is bound to ask you why you want to do this.

Ben, 21 Quest has fitted a 5.5" from a GSXR1100M to his curvey. Far as I remember he needed new spacers made and a different chain size for the sprockets to match.
Find him in the member list and drop him a PM, he'll give you the details or point you towards the thread where he told us the info.

I've not done it myself but there's a spacer kit for a SRAD rear wheel available from SV Race Shop IIRC... Don't know what else is involved though. Though here's something that might help: http://www.svrider.com/tips/gsxr_rearwheel.htm

Two ways of doing it. Either chage the bearings as in the link Northwind posted or as I did got new spacers made(captive).

Doing it my way you will need two spacers to be made. The cush driver spacer and a spacer for the right hand side. You also have to modify the caliper hanger.

If you are not two far from me I could possibly let you try it out.

Edit : Oh forgot to say you also need a custom sprocket made if you want to use the SV chain size(525) as the GIXER chain is a 530 and you can't get a 525 for it off the shelf

Cheers
Ben

I fitted the offside front wheel from a Massey Fergusen MF 300 Series 3 to my curvy. I had to replace the swinging arm with one from a 1933 Rudge Cyclone and do extensive modifications to the exhaust system as well as remove the pillion pegs and put a longer output shaft on the gearbox. It was well worth the effort though as I could then dispense with the side stand.
