Default how to adjust clutch free play

My sv650s k5 needs the clutch cable adjusting as there is too much slack as the cable has stretched .
How do I adjust the slack ?

Cheers Steve

Need to find this out too... my lever had a lot of freeplay, so I adjusted the screws next to it... and it was fine for a day and now the freeplay is back...

i Doubt if the cable has stretched that much. The clutch needs adjusting.

Wind the adjuster fully in
Take off the front sprocket cover
using a 10mm amd 12mm spanner, adjust the cable. The lever should be at a little above horizontal (in front of the sprocket)
Tighten up the lock nuts.
you will see a small crewdriver slot on the thing that the lever is attached to, and around this is a 10mm nut. loosen the nut, and turn the screw clockwise until you feel some pressure, then turn back a little. Holding the screw so it dont move, re tighten the nut.

Once done, you can adjust the freeplay at the lever end to suit.

I hope this helps

If you turn it back a quarter turn you will find it is almost spot on. Make sure the lock nut on the handlebar end is locked - it sounds like it worked loose after you adjusted it!

this is just what i need....

ive been tying myself in knotts trying to adjust my clutch properly!

it seems i either get a load of lever freeplay, or a clutch that wont disengage fully....

im gonna give this method a go tonight!

Default re

adjusted clutch cable :-
Loosened the lock nut ( it had already worked loose from new) at lever & took up slack , strange thing was i took up too much slack initialy , therefore backed off adjuster at lever & this did not increase slack , which was strange , therfore took off sprocket cover & slightly backed off adjustment at lower cable adjuster which did the trick , just fine tuned to 15 mm via lever adjuster.
did not touch the clutch screw as only done 2k miles .

Also dropped the clutch & brake level slightly as appears too high as standard ( might be me)

Cheers Steve
