just attempting to do the above mod (as shown how to do in a previous thread)
after putting the wire in the dealer mode connection and turning the ignition on the small dash thats meant to be in the middle (at the top of the C but in the middle of the two 00) is already at the top position without even starting the bike and revving the engine doesnt make it move when revving my question being..will moving the tps (with the engine switched off) make the little dash appear in the correct posistion thus enabling me to adjust it using the correct procedure or is something that only a shop can cure? any help as always will be gratefully received p.s not showing any fault codes either! |

Just make the adjustment as described, it doesn't matter which way you need to go with the adjusment, basically it should be at the middle bar at tickover and as you move the revs off tickover the TPS should register this - indicated by the move of the wee bar to the upper position.

Sorry, I am still having difficulty working out why you would want to do this mod.
If the fuel mixture changes at 3250 rpm how does this affect the response in normal riding conditions? I don't pull off until the revs are in this band, anything below is lacking in power and torque - this was just the same with the curvy and is a characteristic of the engine. Below 3250 the engine sounds like a tractor if any load is applied. |

The TPS is just that, a throttle position sensor, it's function is to inform the electronics that govern fuelling and ignition settings of what position the throttle is in.
Most people simply don't understand what it does. What it doesn't do is make some dramatic change to the settings at 1450rpm, (or wherever you set it). Simply the TPS is a potentiometer the output of which is 'X' volts in a given spot, this 'X' volts output has been chosen by the designers of the system to be what the electronics recognise as a given throttle opening, the output changes throughout the travel of the throttle, setting the TPS appropriately means that the various sensors around the bike can give the correct information to set the fuelling and ignition variables correctly, which is partly dependant on the system knowing what position the throttle is in. The electronics hasn't got one setting when the little bar is at the low spot, one in the middle spot and one at the highest spot, the display has those so that you can set the relative positions of throttle and sensor conveniently.

No, as long as you can adjust it such that it moves from the centre position at tickover, to the upper position at ~1500rpm - or whatever the desired figure is - all is fine.

just finished doing it. i adjusted the sensor to make the little dash appear in the middle with engine off. ran the bike up to temp and adjusted it accordingly it now moves to the top at about 1400 rpm.
took her for a run...and wow! what a difference, no jerkiness and it also seems to have stablised my tick over too which was very erratic. thanks for all the advice folks ![]() if ya aint done it yourself...give it a go ![]() ![]() by the way only the bottom screw seemed to be made of philadelphia ![]() |
