Default Clutch question

Okay before you all shout, I have searched the archive and its seems to return a lot of stuff about burnouts!

I adjusted my clutch yesterday as per the haynes manual and I'm not happy with it. I'm not looking for a 'how to adjust the clutch' response, but I would like to find out what effect each adjustment is having.

So rather than blindly follow the procedure again, could someone tell me:

What effect adjusting the clutch at the switchgear; the screw and locknut and under the clutch cover and the angle the arm holding the cable will have on the way in which the clutch functions.

Its a K3 BTW

Many Thanks
Luke

The adjuster under the sprocket changes the effective length of the clutch pushrod, this allows the lifter to be 'in range' that is, it ensures that the mechanism that actually changes your pulling a cable into clutch plate separation has, at one end of it's travel, enough slack such that when you release the clutch lever the plates are held together with sufficient spring pressure that the clutch won't slip, and at the other end of it's travel, the plates are sufficiently separated such that the drive is effectively interupted.
The cable adjusters are simply that, they have, unless grossly out of correct adjustment, very little effect on clutch action, simply lever position. They allow you to set the cable slack such that there is as little lost motion in the system as is appropriate.

PS Adjustable levers do nothing other than reduce lift.
