I've never topped up or noticed any drop in the window over 10K and 2 bikes. I check every time before I head out. The place where I get it serviced did say that they do sometimes drink a bit though....Did you run it in, buy second hand, or thrash it from the box?

New engines can burn oil at first, bur after 4000 miles this should have stopped by now. How did you run it in, slow and gentle or did you give it loads of welly?

If you run an engine in treating it with kid gloves the piston rings do dont bed in properly, oil gets past the rings going up and soot gets past the rings going down. All this gets into the ring grooves. An engine run in this way will never produce as much power than an engine that has been thrashed, they also tend to use more oil as the rings don't seal properly.

Some car engines will burn a litre or more oil in 1000 miles when they are new. Especially the old model Zafira 2.0 Diesel Turbo. After a coiple of thousand miles it stops though.

Mine leaks a bit One thing worth mentioning is that SVs can throw oil up the crank breather hoses into the airbox, so it could well be that it's not goign past the rings.

If the oil was getting past the rings it would show as blue smoke. Have you noticed any? If not, have a look in the airbox. It could be the crank breather is blocked.

Haven't had to top mine up at all in the 4 k kms that I've had it, it's up to 10k kms now. Still check it before every ride.
