I hope I'm just being a bit paranoid here but being a newby bike/SV owner would appreciate your advise>
I got back from a ride today and my brother noticed whilst I was driving past his car that the Oil in the sight glass looked a bit milky (his description). After parking up I looked and it just looks as though the oil had been swished about a bit causing some bubbles in the sight glass. A couple of mintues later I checked again and the oil looked perfect - at the right level, clear and with no obvious signs of anything untoward. I undid the filler cap and there where no white deposits or anything. The expansion tank doesn't seem to have lost any water either. Am I worrying over nothing? ![]() |

If theres no milky deposits and the oil in the window is normal then I wouldn't worry he proberbly just saw air bubbles

I think you're right - my brother just sent me into a bit of a panic when he said it. I think I'll get my own back and start mentioning strange noises coming from his car or smoke from his exhaust when next comes round!

If your oil sat over winter in the bike it could go a bit milky.
if you're worried do an oil change. You should every spring if the bike was stored for winter just in case. |

As the others say, if the oil itself looks clean with the engine stopped it should be fine. |

Thanks for the advice guys, when it's running the oil does seem to be well down the sight glass - I think it was just some bubbles of oil against the glass. The oil is definitely clear when stopped so I don't think it's a problem - I'll just keep an eye on things for a while until the paranoia subsides.
Once again thanks for the words of wisdom - like I said before this is my first bike so no doubts I'll be asking more silly questions and calling on all the excellent advise/experience on this site. ![]() |

if you do lots of short journeys you can get condensation in your oil this can look a little milky on your oil filler cap but a good oil change is all that is needed.
