Are the grooves in which they should sit completely clean, square and undamaged?
If not then they'll never fit right anyway. If yes then are you re-using the original distended and possibly damaged seals? That'll never happen, if they are in good nick it's an easy fit, if they're not then it'll be damn difficult and they won't work right anyhoo.

That is true
I'd say it's knackered seals too, that tie in with that crunchy feeling... Seals dragging out. Were they in the groove when you pulled the pistons?

Hey, they could save my life its all sorted the temper has cleared and we are all sorted all I need to do is re-build the whole of the front of the bike... Tempted to leave all the plastics off and just go for a ride!!!
