Default How to tighten / loosen round nuts on steering stem??

Just thinking ahead now my GSXR front end swap is close.

What tool to loosen and tigthen those two 'custle' nuts on the stem below the top yoke ( the round ones with notchs cut out)?

A C spanner, but then how can they be torqued properly afterwards ??

Cheers
Kieran

You can cheat if you have a grinder.

Get (preferably an old) socket with outer diameter the same as the castle nut. Grind away all but the 4 lugs. Make sure it's a size that fits your torque wrench of course!!!!

You can probably buy these from Suzuki, but knowing their prices I didn't even look it up.

I did mine with a brass punch and a hammer. Didn't torque it up by the book of course, but that's not really essential as long as it's right- 2 ways to skin a cat.

I agree - a punch and hammer works well, if youre bothered, you can check the tension on the headstock with a fisherman type scale (cant remeber the exact weight required offhand, maybe someone else can enligten or check net/forum for answer.) Munch.

For me the punch was a flat headed screwdriver and a hammer. The book says somthing like, tighten it enough till there is resistance moving the yokes then back off 1/4 of a turn then tighten the lock nut., i think.
