Default Best route to Manchester?

Hi guys and gals,

Just found out that my dad is flying over from Oz for a business trip at the end of the month to Manchester so I'm planning to ride up on bank holiday monday to meet him, and back down to London on the tuesday. I'm planning on going up the M40, M56 then M6 into Manchester. Is this the best route or do you know of a better/faster one and how long would it take?

Hoping for a sunny run, although it rains a lot up norf dunnit

Just to let you know there is a 40mph limit on a bit of the M6 with those nasty average speed of distance cameras!

M25, M1, A50, M6, A556, M56 or M25, M4, A50, A34 or M1 M6, M6 toll, A556, M56

On a good day, two and half hours. Bad day double that and more espicially on a bank holiday

And there is a section on the M1 with specs cameras (at least they were there Sunday)

I no longer use the M40, M4, M6 traffic is just too bad.

Cheers, looks like I'll be avoiding the M40. The first route looks good, going to see what the GPS thinks of it tonight.

Thanks all

My girlfriend used to live in Warrington and i live in bromley. 3hrs 5 mins was the quickest, and that was keeping it the right side of the ton. That was Blackwall Tunnel, A12, M11,M25,M1,M6, M56.

I tried the M40 route, and you can get stuck on the M25 so takes the speed out of it. Just use the toll road.
