Xena locks - SV650.org

With the Xena disk locks (such as the XN15), I can't see any reason why someone who could tolerate the alarm for about 5 seconds couldn't just unscrew the alarm bit and silence that, giving them time to hack at the lock in relative peace.
I'd have thought that if an alarm went off, people would look, but if they just saw someone bent over and it then went quiet, they'd assume they'd tripped it accidentally.

Anyone got any experience of said locks? My thoughts are the alarm bit would be more for me - stop me riding off with it still in place...

Not sure this is the right forum but here goes,

I got one, the alarm bit can only be unscrewed when the lock is off the bike. However the alarm is rubbish, mine continually got water trapped in the sensor which meant that it would arm itself once in by backpack or topbox and then go off for the rest of the journey.

It then leaked internally and went off continually for 2 days until i got the right allen key to take the battery out.

As for disarming it i reckon a well placed screwdriver in the speaker would finsh it in seconds.

i noticed the alarmed oxford lock wouldnt be up to much.

all you gotta do is take the battery out the thing to stop it going off.

I have one too. Had it 2 years now and still works well and as was said you can only take it apart when it is not on the disc. Has saved me riding off a few times too which isnt a bad thing!

Yeah, trying to ride of with it still in place is my main concern to be honest. I think if someone wanted to nick a bike, a disk lock wouldn't be much of a discouragement - they could just load it into a van.

I had one too and it was bloody rubbish. The alarm either wouldn't work or would go off continuously. I ended up ripping the wires out of the thing and I just use it as a normal disc lock now.

I don't suppose you (or anyone else who had problems with it) spoke to Xena about its failings? Wondered what their customer support is like.

No I didn't bother. I had an old model of the Xena years before that and it was fine. Used it for years and years without a hitch and then the lock packed up so I bought a new one and it was rubbish. It's a nice disc lock though, just a rubbish alarm

I can totally rate the Xena XM9 alarmed disk lock. It only goes off with a reasonable amount of movement and I havn't had any trouble with moisture. Batts last about 6 months maybe a bit less but I found cheap ones on the internet. It saved my bike and it was on the other side of the road and I was asleep in my flat on the 2nd floor! I think my brain is tuned in to the sound of it! Obviously the down side of any disk lock is that if you forget about it or someone tries to steal the bike, you get a warped disk. I know. But I've been told you can get 'em straightened for £30 a pair so I think it's worth it. You tend not to ride off with it on the disk as it is beeping like crazy by the time you have the engine started if you forget to take it off...

I have the Xena Alarmed Disc lock and Chain and find it excellent build quality.
It is also Gold rated which must mean something against theft.
The alarm on the Disc can be tempremental at times when setting itself but will activate when movement occurs.

Overall I rate it as a good anti theft device.
The chain is permanently in the garage as it weighs about 10 kgs, too much for the back pack me thinks.
