Default Covering bodywork with electrical insulation tape

I have just got myself a GSX750 Inazuma to commute on - what a great bike.

Unfortunately the one I could not resist buying (1 owner, 8000 miles, serviced every 1000 miles - mint) is red and I really wanted a black one.

I have covered most of the bodywork with electrical insulation tape to protect it and to change the colour - it actually looks quite good - like a matt black paint job with lines in it - very mean.....

My question is, will the tape damage the paintwork with time, or become impossible to get off? I am pretty sure it will be OK, but am slightly concerned that it will harden to the point that it will not remove easily and keep breaking into little bits - which would take forever to remove.

Any comments?

I bet you a pound it won't damage the paint. But it will be a ****ard to get off, the adhesive will go gummy when wet. The tape'll come off but it'll leave a lot of glue behind. Buy some isopropyl alcohol before you do this, I reckon.
