Hello again!
About a year ago I posted here just to let everyone know I was in the process of saving up for my SV650 and getting my DAS sorted etc. Anyway, over 2 years of hard scrimping and saving i'm nearly there. I was pretty certain I would of been on the road this time last year but, as ever, lifes what happens when you're busy making plans. Passed my theory test first time a month or so back, I got 35/35 but only 50 on the hazzard perception bit, which is quite poor. The test was at 9:30 am and my brain was still at home eating cornflakes watching morning tv, so it just wasn't happening, that's my excuse anyway ![]() I passed my CBT a few weeks back, though I did make a very stoopid mistake within the first 10 mins on the road, not tellin ya what I did tho ![]() ![]() (there's a recent topic about the CBT elsewhere on this site, so i'll post my views on it there). So, I start my proper DAS training in two weeks, and 'the big one' in about three. I've opted for four full days training and will pay extra for an extra half a day on the day of my test, i'd imagine a few hours riding time helps just before you do the test. Hope I pass though because it's important to me and I'd love to be on the road for the Bulldog Bash this year, just like the old days ![]() I'd forgotten how much money getting on the road again costs ![]() Licence fees, clothing, security, training, modifying the house so the bike (when I get it) fit's in the back yard etc etc etc. Glad I saved my old Frank Thomas boots an jacket from years ago, bought myself a nice Arai Astro Mick Doohan repro helmet for £300 (£100 cheaper than J&S's) and some Alpinestars GP Plus gloves so thats my clothing sorted, just gotta get some security/ bike cover stuff still. With my last 3 bikes having been stolen and nearly stolen i'm going for a 'belt and braces' approach to security this time, 2 ground anchors, 2 abus chains, 2 disk locks and maybe an alarm should do the trick, I hope. Got all my money saved up (£3500-ish) for a nice 2004 Blue or silver fully fared SV or a blue or black 2005 one in the Northwest area if pos, so i'm keeping my eye's peeled. Been some lovely bikes in the for sale section here but they all apear to be down south, why are all the good bikes down south?! ![]() Like I said last year-ish, I used to ride a DT-125R, that got nicked (only had it two months), my mate was killed on his RGV250 @ 30mph due to a nasty tankslapper on a poor road surfice, so I took a break from bikes for about 15 years. Then a few years back the bug bit, I was working in some fellas house who had a GPZ in his garage, it was summer and it was that smell, that gasolene smell, smells like, like victory... So I decided I WANTED another bike. I used to go to millions of bike rallies with my best mate, Bulldog, BMF, NABD etc and tons of MCC rallies, they were a good laugh. So I can't wait till I get the SV so we can do more of the same again, just like the old days. Once we went two-up on the DT-125R to Penzance before I bought it off him, took us 9hrs (eachway) of very painfull riding to get there, we only went for the day too! :P Then we both went to France two-up on his RD350LC, which was certainley somthing i'll never forget. 54hrs of no sleep + long haul night time motorway travel + hallucinations + both rider an myself falling asleep on a motorcycle travelling on a motorway = CRASH Both myself and rider fell asleep (numerous times) once he had to pull me back onto the bike because I was asleep and leaning over the side. Anyway, the jarring action of the bike woke me up to find the rider, MY RIDER fast asleep veering across all 3 motorway lanes, all I could do was to shout out WE'RE GONNA DIE!! That woke him up, he regained some control of the bike and crashed into the centeral reservation, only a bit tho!! Falling asleep on a moving motorcycle happens easier than you think, even while singing to yourself outloud with your visor wide open to keep yourself awake, it dosn't work though ![]() Please don't flame me, we were young/naive and I won't do it again!! Whoops, it appears iv'e gone off on a bit of a tangent. ![]() Like i said, nearly there ![]() Bri. |
