Default Question about licenese

Just having a discussion on another site.

Say im 17. I apply for my restricted 2 year license up to 33bhp. I pass....

I get to 19, does that mean my restrictor limit has passed and i can get anything

OR (as i thought)

Is that rider still restricted till the age of 21. 2 years up or not?

Nope, thats right. You have to be 21 to take DAS but can be unrestricted at 19. Wouldnt want the insurance though. You'll be talking 4 figures to the insurance companies.

Yes that's right. You are restricted for two years whatever your age.As for insurance It will cost but you should have two years no claims and experience by then so it should'nt be four figures. My son is twenty/ three years NCB and pays £390 on a SVSK1.

I paid 680 quid on my unrestrcited SV when i was 19, it seems the restriction had no bearing on the cost as the year before it had come down from £765 i think

That is also correct.Being a law unto themselves insurers give no preminm reduction for having a resticted bike.Obviously they do require the restriction if your license requires it or you will not be insured at all,but do not recognise the bike as warranting a lower group if it only gives out 33 BHP.
It's called having their cake and eating it.

By the same "logic", you would hope that boring out and supercharging the engine to 140bhp, would similarly not make any difference to premiums.

I paid 1200 TPO when I was 17 (two years ago) And that was with one year's NCB. Last year came down to 800 TPO Will be interesting to see how much they want this year when restriction will be over (thank fook).

Insurance isn't too bad, I pay £440 unrestricted on an R6 and i'm only 20 in a couple of weeks.

Edit * UlsterSV - you really should shop around.
