Default North way round

Looking for a bit of advice from anyone who's ever done an exceptionally long trip on their bike. My other half is Norwegian and comes from the far north of Norway (we're talking further north than iceland, over the top of finland and russia here) and next summer I'm planning on riding there on my SV.

The route is about 1700miles, so a 3400mile round trip. Was originally going to go by myself but when a couple of buddies saw what I was planning they wanted to come along too.

Question is, as I've never done any touring, what should I be doing for planning the trip and what to take?

It's one of those once in a lifetime adventures, through a beautiful country (aslong as the reindeer stay off the road that is!!)

maybe a gel saddlw wouldnt go a miss over that distance tho

Mozzie repellent is a must, been there a few times and the mozzie are huge! Was thinking about a gel seat as I find the pointy SV saddle very hard and the riding position a bit heavy on the wrists.

It is an amazing place to see.

Also need to get some luggage as I only have a tailpack at the moment. You heading to the North of Norway too Scooby?

This is the route I'm taking.

Just re-checked the route and it's actually just over 1900miles there.

Done the south of Spain and back, almost as far as you're going.

How many days are you planning to take? I found that after doing lots of miles my legs and wrists ached more than my ****

According to my other half you can drive up in a car in 3 days, but that's along the Swedish motorways and there's no way I'm riding up the motorway for a thousand miles!!!

We reckon it'll take four days once we get to Stavanger (ferry from Newcastle, got to ride down from Aberdeen) but we're stopping off in Tromso where I have friends who've offered to put us up for the night. So 3 days to Tromso, I've been told you can drive from Tromso to Nesseby (where we're going) in one (long) day, but we're taking tents with us.

My wife and I have bought a little house there so I'll be staying there when we arrive, but the other guys will be heading back after a day or so.

Where's Nordkapp Scooby and when you going?
