I'm toying with the idea of getting some crash bungs. I've read lots of the posts on here and it seems to come down to a choice between Motosliders and R&G.
The question I have is which has the best mounting method? The Motosliders seem to bolt through the frame and engine. This seems like the strongest way of mounting to me. However, it means the bung is up against the frame and, should it bend in a crash, it could damage the frame. The advantage of the R&G's seems to be that they are bolted to a bracket mounted on the frame. That way even if the bung bends right over it can't damage the frame? The reason for me asking this is that I was in a friends bike shop and he was pointing out a crashed SV where the bung, although not snapping off, had bent far enough back to touch the frame and put a small dent in it. As far as the insurance company was concerned it wrote the bike off as it needed a new frame. Now it could be that it would have been written off for other reasons if the bung hadn't been there at all. Any opinions from people who've crashed with bungs fitted? Do they tend to bend back that far anyway? Or should I get a life and stop thinking about it so much?! ![]() P.

The mounting bracket for the R&Gs is actually fitted using the engine mounting bolts. They also supply a new engine 'bar' (threaded rod that fits right through the engine) made from aircraft-grade steel.
From what I can see on mine, even if the bungs did bend, they'd still keep the frame (and radiator) from touching down. Have a look at my bike tomorrow - I'm on it every day now ![]() |

Hah, that's exactly what my R&Gs did, and shouldn't have done. The bolt's too flexible.

I know they're supposed to bend when struck, but mine bent like that from a slide... They might as well have not been there. They should bend or tear off if they hit an edge, but bending like that from sliding force is ridiculous- it makes them far less effective than they should be. THe GSXR ones use the same bolt size, but the base of the bung is full thickness instead of tapered, and that gives them much more strength.

ive had both, and i do prefer the r and g's, but like some of you have stated, they do bend really easily. although if not then the frame could take the force and bend. just out of interest does anyone know where to buy replacement r and g bungs and bolt. i slid on the left hand side and bent it and scuffed it. i can only get hold of a new set.
