Default 0 to 186mph in the blink of an eye!?

Hi there.

New to this forum so please excuse lack of knowledge!

Riding along yesterday evening the speedo starts sort of flickering all sorts of speeds for no apparent reason and at times rea O mph when I was clearly not stationary....

I called the dealer who said that it is probably water in the connectors beneath the left hand side panel. This surprises me since although the bike is about 15months old and I ride it every day, we're in the middle of a hosepipe ban/ drought so no way has it seen any water in weeks.

So I looked at lunchtime and all looks fine. This evening I cleaned the area and added a bit of WD40 (no water)!

But the fault wasn't evident on the ride home from work so I have no idea whether I've cured it.

Anyone else seen this type of fault. It is an 04 model (new shape / silver frame) 650 (faired model) but I guess the fault could be evident on the 1000 too!?

Cheers,

Jon

i know u have digital clocks but my curvy speedo was red lining when i was in slow moving trafic,
im prob wrong (as usual) but i looked at my battery terminals and the red was loose, tightened it and that was the end of that problem, also just check all other connections

i think i know the problem

your dealer may have sold you a turbo charged hayabusa drag bike instead of the sv.

oh well, bad luck.

I will check obvious dodgy wiring connections to the battery etc....
But all other readings and lights functioing OK.

Another local bike workshop said it could be the speedo cable that has been damaged in some way and that this was connected to the gearbox so I'm a bit worried that I could have a problem in the gearbox now. Will keep an eye on it.

Default Had the same problem

Hi

I had the same problem a few weeks after I got my used K3 Sv, it was the sender unit that sits in the front wheel on the right hand side follow the cable down you will see it.
My Suzuki dealer replaced it all under the used warranty for me.

Hi,
My money would be on a loose battery terminal as stated above or some little leccy gremlin, if all leccy connections seem tight then if it's in warrenty a dealer shold be able to replacethe deffective leccy part. I wouldnt worry about the gearbox for now it's likley to be something fairly cheap and annoying thats gone rather than anything major.

The Speedo 'cable' (wiring) goes to the front wheel to where the sender is!
Not the Gearbox.
