Default lost all oil !! Need advice ...

Today i did the 1000km checkup on my sv, on the way home i started to fell the back sliding on a very slow easy turn , i tough that it was some oil on the tires from the workshop Flor's or chain lube on the tires , so i slow down ... 500 meters ahead ,a slow turn into a stone road (roman style road, dont know how they are called in english) and i fell the back very loose ,no traction , and waving left and right , i slow down and pull over.

Smoke coming out of the engine , oil dripping ,and couldn't see any oil on level glass , it was dry

The temperature on the display was 84º Celsius , normal running temp is 88º/92º , so i think its wasn't running without oil for a long time , and looking at the oil trail i left behind i think i did about 800 meters !

The dealer was quick to pick up the bike , and fix it, they delivered the bike to my work place in 3 hours , and had 2 calls from the dealer apologising for this !

They told me that the original oil filter O-ring , got stuck to the engine , they didn't see it , and mounted the new oil filter over the old O-ring, so i had 2 O-ring's on my oil filter...

I was with the mechanics chatting and asking questions , while they changed the oil and did all the checkups to the bike , they looked like they knew what they where doing !

They tell me its all ok with the bike... but i don't know
The engine fells good ,but it think theres a bit more vibes coming from the engine , but it can be just paranoia !
What should i look out for ? triple the oil checks ? funny noises from the engine ? lost of power ?

the rear break... it useless now , all the rear end got covered with oil ...
Do oily break pads dry with use ? or i need new pads ?

I mechanical noob if it wasn't for this site i would probably drive the bike back to the dealer even without oil in the engine

Well,if that was me,I would take the bike back and get them to sort the brakes out too! Especially as they have admitted liability for the loss of oil!

You can clean pads, but what tends to happen is,when the pads get hot,the oil 'sweats' out of the pad material and so renders the pads USUALLY useless!

With regard to the Engine,I think it depends how long you actually rode for with a lack of oil. Just keep a good check of power/noises etc!

Good Luck mate!

Im going to give it a nice big ride tomorrow and see how the bikes fells

I have hope that the engine is fine , when i stopped the bike there was still oil dripping from the engine... and the oil trail only had half a mile , about 1 minute ride at 30 mph

I would be happy to find that the rear break, is my only problem !

Probably fine over such a short period. I once rode a crashed Kwak ER5 home from Scotland (over 500 miles after the crash) without any coolant in the radiator (which had been holed). It burnt up the entire 3.5 litrees of oil on the way back and was dry and oil pressure light on by the time I got home. Put in fresh oil and fixed the rad and it was fine. Bike engines are pretty tough.

I think She is fine

40 miles ride on my favourite road ,and didn't notice anything strange with the engine , some noises from the engine , but they probably paranoia !

The extra vibes are from over tight mirrors, that i asked the mechanic to do it
And rear break is a Little better , still not capable of locking the back as it used to be , but maybe with a few more miles it will get better !

- Now i have one more question ... i think they put to much oil in the bike . With the engine hot , the oil glass if full to the top , engine cool , its 5mm above max !
should i worry about this or give it some time ?

btw: thanks a lot for the replies i was really worried about this , but now i'm a bit more relaxed !

I think I'd find a different mechanic

leaving the old gasket on is incompetent negligence

not cleaning all the oil off your brakes is further incompetent negligence

Being an ex mechanic I would insist on the garage supplying and fitting new rear pads free off charge. If the pads are contaminated with oil then they need replacing.

Now for the reason why, lets imagine you have an accident on your next ride out, you accidently knock someone down resulting in their serious injury or death. The police will carry out an inspection of your bike to see if any faults could have contributed to the accident. They discover the contaminated brake pads. They will conclude from this that you could not slow down as fast as you should. They question you about the fault and you divulge that this has been a problem for a while. The police now have you bang to rights for failing to maintain your motor vehicle and would probably put most of the blame on you even if you couldn't avoid the accident.

Get them changed!

The problem is that i live in a island , and they are the only official suzuki workshop, so i depend on them for the all the checkups during the warranty !
Anyway i believe this was a honest mistake , im sure they will never do it again !

That is a fair point ! the rear break fells almost good as new now , but as Speedy told , there is the danger of sweaty pads . im planing a long ride this weekend , if i fell anything funny on the rear breaks , or the engine , i will go talk to the dealer .

And i believe they will fix it ... or break something else

The lads are right.
Oil can get in, you mightnt notice it in the rear that much at the start, but since the pads are so porous the oil can be lurking in there. And its imposible to clean them.

No harm in having spare pads anyway

Can we name and shame please, this could have been far worse.

Glad you are ok and no one was hurt. As a matter of interest the dropped oil wasn't near any corners was it, if so it might be worth alerting the council so they can clean it up.

I would be trying to get every last penny out of the dealership, new pads, new tires etc, after all i'm sure this level of incompetnace must be illegal.
