My SV has to go.............*cries

Well after having done 7'000 miles in 4 months I have decided to let her go. As I do so many miles I just don't find my SV comfy enough, after about 20 mins I get serious back pain and numness i my hands. I thought this would go away but it definately the bike aggravating a dodgy back. Probably will get a new Bandit 650 to commute on and then get an SV1000 next year for weekend fun.

Will be sorry to see her go as I really have enjoyed owning her but it's too painful to ride to work.

Still, gives me an excuse to own the 1000cc version!

How about a faired Hornet or Fazer? I'm guessing you don't want anything unfaired due to the amount of miles you do.

why change the bike if you like your SV? surely it would be simple to fit raised bars and cheaper given the loss you incur selling a bike second hand and the cost of a new bike. Just a thought you might want to look into before selling.

But if selling is the only option, I would possibly suggest something like a CBF600. Faired, nice handling, has some oomph when you need it and an upright riding position. Though it does lack character it does exactly what its supposed to and one reason Im considering the thousand. Adjustable seat heights for taller/shorter people among us was another reason Im after one.

As Lyn suggested mate, have a look at some bar risers. How tall are you? My younger brother is 6'3" and had problems on a curvy 650S with weight on wrists etc because he had so much weight leaning forward at a sharp angle it was uncomfortable. more upright seating position sorted it though.

Worth a look at given the money you'll lose is resale value.

I 've had my svs for the same time and have gone 5.5k miles , the bike is not particulary comfy , believe me or not my last sport s bike ( zxr750) was a lot more comfy . However would hate to take the hit of depreciation so soon , i paid 3800 new for mine & would guess it would only be worth 3 k .
I would try some mods firsy , bar rises etc first .
Depends how many readys you have.

NB a very good , comfy & cheap bike is the origianl Mark 1 fazer 600, I did 50 k on one of them without it missing a beat , can pick a good one up for 1500 quid .
Also a steel framed CBR 600 is a lot of bike for not a lot of money.
The sv is more fun to ride though.

To add to the confusion....

Try a gel seat and some rearsets. The gel seat is softer on your backside, allowing the blood to flow better (you get numb bum and pins and needles due to poor blood flow). The rearsets will allow you to "drop" the pegs a little. I found on my Gixer that the reach for the bars was OK, it was only when I raised my feet to the pegs that it started to compress the spine.

So, you may lose a little ground clearance, but most rearsets can bring the pegs down as well as up, and sort out your seat as that makes a big difference.

Much cheaper than buying another bike....
