Default Tyres needed soon

I prolly need some new tires soon, i might get them before the track day in aug if i go. There are so many to choose from though. I have had a MEZ4 rear which was not all that good, but when i went to the Z6 rear i found it realy odd and did not give me much confidence. I had a M1 on the front which realy felt good and gave me lots of confidence in fast corners, but since the Z6 on the front its never felt the same.

Now the issue is, i realy want a M1 front and possably a rear to replace my squaring 020 but the M1 life is limited, my old front took abt 5000miles before it was in need of replacement.

There are so many tires on the market at the moment i am not sure what to try. The new M3 look intresting but cost a fair bit, the M1 are reasonable cost and on par with the Z6.

So any ideas what to get, except Z6? The Avons look apealing based on some reports.

This chap sells part worn tyres (x-race tyres by the looks):-

Looking at his feedback, looks like the last 120&160 pair he sold went for £51, £44 the previous set (to give you an idea of going rate ... have a look through more of his history/feedback if you like).

Partworn Supercorsa’s would make for ideal trackday rubber, road legal too, so will see you a few road miles afterwoods (don’t expect 50k though ). At least you get to try out some different tyres for minimum outlay/risk too.

I am doing the Lydden trackday and will be running partworn supercorsa’s, I am using them on my road bike at the mo, this time of year, I can't fault them as a road tyre.

Cool and he has the front in 120/70 which is what i want. What about thoes ripples on the edge of the tires, do they mess up road handling?

I have Avons at the moment and have enjoyed the ride with them on .. there have only been one occassion where they have let me down but more to do with road conditions then the tyre. They have also lasted quite a long time and have performed fantastically in the wet for me dispersing water like a roster tail behind me very

my back tyre has had it now though it has squared off a lot so I am now going to switch to the contis Road Attacks to give them a shot I have been quoted £180 includes front and back and fitting so not bad at all... and I havent heard a bad thing about them either

I have been known to, i do lean the bike a fair bit. I am realy talking about the rear tyre not the front.

Hehe, it really isn’t a problem. To be fair I ended up ‘cleaning up’ my tyres riding on the road. You only really get that sort of tearing on track.

Its worth picking and choosing when you buy second hand, some are more knackered than others, he seems to give good details (and no I am not on commission and no I don’t even know the bloke!! ).

As a tip to get more life out of the tyres, I actually put my rear tyre on in reverse direction. As most tracks are clockwise, generally the RHS gets worn most. Quite often a racer will discard a tyre that is pretty worn on the RHS, but virtually untouched on the LHS. By ‘turning’ the partworn tyre, you get to use the virtually unworn LHS (as it is now the RHS) so it is like having a new tyre on a predominately RH turn track.

“Is it safe” I hear you cry?!!? Not for me to say, but one thing I will say is that it is quite common for the less well funded racers to turn tyres and lets face it on track is where they get stressed the most, draw your own conclusions. Also the tread pattern on the supercorsa looks symmetrical to me.

If you like cornering with a smile on your face I can strongly recommend Michelin Power Sports. Show your bike a corner and it just wants to drop on it's ear for you! Superb.

Hmm, I really like the M1 front, Z6 rear combo, they're a good mix for riding like a knob. But it is taste, of course. Sportecs are as good as you need on the road but they just don't last as well as I'd want them to, the rears especially.

Race take-offs, well, they last even less well and you'll be fitting and removing them more often. Do you do your own tyres? Buying a set of part-worns for £50 isn't going to save you much if you need to pay a dealer to fit them, since you'll need to do it so often. Also, really sticky tyres don't make for good all weather rubber- but you know this I'm sure. After a brief cold, wet ride with Supercorsa Pros I was delighted to get back to Z6s

I could probably do you a part-used M1 120/70 front, it's done maybe 500 miles and a gentle trackday... Got some cheap Rennsports for my spare wheels

Is it not the same in the UK as here in Spain? Normally there are tyre guys at the track days and you can get yourself a right deal on both part worns and brand new tyres?
