Just say no

I have a very small 32" Panasonic widescreen jobbie with 100Hz refresh-rate. I cannot overstate how much of a difference this makes. If you are over-ruled then get one with this feature.

Unfortunately the two are not mutually exclusive, I could take her out every day for a hundred years and we'd still be getting a new telly !!

Seriously,
My biking expendeture is never questioned
My biking holidays/weekends away/race meeting trips (all without her) are never questioned.
My time spent in the garage cleaning/modifying/fiddling is never questioned.

If my lass wants a new telly then a new telly she shall have.

Panasonic (TX-32LXD60) is looking favourite at the moment, refresh rate is key is it ?

my mates got a samsung 32" lcd and a lg 42" plasma. the plasma is ****e, however the samsung is pretty good - can see it from all angles, nice and bright, no artifacts or pixellation.
