Default My first off...

Well guys, it happened sooner than later.

Today I went on a bikesafe day with TSM, was a good days riding (just me a the policeman) and he gave me lots and lots of helpful info, for £30 i would recommend it.

Anyway... to the crash. I was coming down the road and there was a nice left hand bend which i went round at about 20mph, it suddenly tightened which normally would be fine but there was lots of spilt grain on the other side of the road. Becuase i was spending too much time thing "oh crap, look at that" I went wide, hit the grain and bam, bike went from under me.

Slid across the road and into the grass verge and then the policeman came round the corner, stopped in the road ahead of me with his lights going and came to see if i was alright by which point I was already on my feet looking around.

Im fine, jacket did its job, couple small holes through the textile on the shoulders and scuffs down the left arm. Gloves have some scuffs.

The bike... Well the R&G crash bung (the new type) just snapped off soon as i hit the ground (which im pretty sure they arnt ment to do... esp at 15mph) I have some small scuffs on the front fender and side of the radiator, tank has small dent in it and the gear selector snapped off

Police got me to call my breakdown service and got the bike picked up and just now dropped off at home. Apart from the cosmetic dmg (no paint has been taken off) and the gear selector it all seems fine. May use it to go get a new one tomorrow after work by sticking it in 2nd and staying in it.

Did find it amusing that my first off happened on a police bikesafe day :P

TSM should have some photos, I will post some of the bike and my kit tomorrow once i get my camera back.

edit: couple hours later and im starting to hurt all over now (or just notice it more), shoulder and leg hurt & are bruised. Neck is aching.

Sorry about the quality, my camera is in my tank bag which is still with the police, I had to use a mates crap camera but you get the idea.

Alanis Morissette might write that into a song, be careful. At least you're not hurt, is the main thing- the tank dent's a bit of a bummer though.

But don't worry, any second now someone'll be along to tell you how great the R&Gs are really.

Quoted from the R&G site

Quote:
Crash Protectors
We manufacture and market individual, bespoke designs for around 150 different models of motorcycle. Our crash protectors even received an MCN rating of 97%. These are not "mushrooms" and, unlike most competitors, we use de-embrittled high-tensile steel bolts, designed not to snap off on impact. In addition, we insert compression sleeves inside the bobbins, which are designed to scrub speed from crashes quickly and minimize damage to frames and fairings in most crash scenarios
Can I do anything about the fact the first thing they did when they hit the ground was snap off? It was only 15mph and have a policeman to confirm?

I'd definately contact them, tell them what happened and quote your witness, etc. You might be lucky and get a replacement out of them (about £35 for a bung, bolt and postage by the way!) but I doubt they'll do any more.
