You dont need to.

However I find in winter sometimes that even the scotoiler doesnt keep the chain lubbed especially on those nasty wet horrible days where all it does is rain all the time.

Everynow and again I'll pop the bike up on the paddock stand and give it a clean and then a lube with some spray on chain lube.

You shouldnt use the excuse you have a scotoiler to not do periodic checks on your chain IMHO.

You should its easier to clean off the fling from a scotoiler than chain lube fling

Really. The amount you clean your bike I wouldnt have thought it would have time to get dirty.

I know what you mean about the fling. It took me a while to get the scotoiler set right. But now I have I dont get that much fling. Plus the GSXR has black wheels so you don't notice it as much

Yep, if the oiler's oiling right, the amount of fling is minimal...

Ambient temperature affects the flow rate massively I have found - mine is cranked down to "2" at the moment - on "5" I was cleaning the wheel less than every 100 miles!

totally agree about "Fling" reduction with reducing the number on the dial however it does take a few rides to workout which number is best for keeping the chain well oiled with a scottoiler. I have a touring one on the back which is too heavy for the number plate so need to replce it with just the small resvoir.
One good thing about the touring S/oilers is you only need to fill the tank once a year! Well me anyway with the low milage that I do.
