Default I thought Kickboxing was hard....

I always thought Thai Kickboxing to be one of the hardest sports around in terms of self defence.

How wrong I was.... Taekwondo Vs Kickboxer clips.. Im not sure if the KB has the same skills level in his fighting technique as his TK opponent does... Damn thats some good kicks!!

Some nice moves there from the Taekwondo guy.

But as you said - clearly the kick boxer didn't have much skill.

He didn't block a single blow.

Taekwondo might look good but it's not the most effective martial arts.

Ever watch the UFC ?

Most of the guys that try funky sh*t kicks & flips - look good but loose.

Firstly I have to suggest that is a very poor kick boxer. Secondly Thai Boxing is more designed for close in combat. An exponent of Taekwondo uses kicks greatly and obviously needs a certain distance between him and the opponent to carry this out. Thus putting him out of reach of the kick boxers own attacks.

The only way a kick boxer can win in such a contest is to cover up and use lots of upper body movement in order to try and deflect a lot of the kicks. With that he also needs to have the cojones to continue forward to eventually crowd the karate guy out and so defusing his threat.

How do I know this? I have been in a similar contest but this was against a 2nd dan black belt at karate who used a very european/boxing type approach. I struggled big time against him to land anything for points.

Thats ace kicks, but clearly a highlights clip of the kicks the Taekwondo guy landed. Looked like Hwoarang from Tekken 3

A guy from my school's coming up in the UFC now, that's his approach as well... Nothing showy, just use whatever works. Big mad mix of karate, kickboxing, wing chun, and whatever else he's picked up. I remember seeing him fight a busload of drunks pretty much singlehanded at about 16 years old, absolutely terrifying.

kick boxing is hard, ken shamrock and most of the guys in the ufc have to be multi art trained.
