Default Exhaust/ emmisions questions

Hi,

I'm a bit of a newbie, having only just got a sv650s k6 a few weeks ago, now I've been looking at upgrading my exhaust, but most of the systems I've seen say k4-k5, is there any reason why they will not work on a k6 as they are the same shape and specs (as on the ixil website does have a space for k6 exhausts, but it has less exhausts, with no twin cans etc, which are only k5 and before).

Another thing, I am unsure on what "O2 feedback control" is, would this be affected by fitting a different can? on some websites when searching for this it says that there is a sensor in the exhaust that ajusts the performance to give out the best emmisions, but on searching this forum I read that there is no sensors in the exhausts. so I dont want to cut off my exhaust, cutting off something vital to the bikes running, and I am worried of doing anything without some advice first, as this is all too confusing for me, if anyone could clear all this up for me, I'd be very grateful, cheers

K5 stuff fits K6's.

O2 control is a Lambda sensor (i think) but the SV doesn't have one so don't worry about it.

The SV does have the PAIR system though, this injects air into the exhaust to make the emissions (sp) seem cleaner. Makes it pop and burble on the overrun. Up to you if you blank the system off or not.

Me? I like the popping.

I fully expect this post to be corrected by the more knowledgable orgers.

see thats wht I thought, and thats what everyone says, but on the suzuki website..

http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/techspecs.asp?id=24&l=

it says "PAIR (Suzuki Pulsed-secondary AIR) system, catalyzer and O2 feedback control for reduced emissions"

so that mentions a o2 feedback system.

Yes, that'll be referring to a lambda sensor (also known as variations on the "exhaust gas oxygen" or EGO sensor theme).

I don't know for sure, but I suspect the 2006 emission standards will have meant the introduction of feedback fuelling control on practically everything.

Since you have a K6, have a look down at the exhaust collector area where the 2 front pipes come together. If there's a thing looking a bit like a steel spark plug screwed in it, with wires coming out of the end, than that's your kiddie. If it does have one you really do need to keep it, without it working the fuelling will probably revert to some sort of limp-home default value which I doubt will be satisfactory.

Legal issues aside, the bike doesn't need the catalyst to run OK, that's entirely a passive device, other than its removal might affect the backpressure enough to upset the engine management, but you really do need to keep the O2 sensor.

I didnt think the SV had a Lambda sensor...

Just put the can on your bike. It'll run fine. When it comes to MOT time put the standard can back on if you are that worried about it.

Remember that the slip on can means that you cut the point after the point that embee says that the O2 sensor might be if it has one. So you'll still be leaving the O2 sensor on the stock pipe work that you leave on the bike.

The SV IIRC only has relatively simple fuel injection I dont think its that sophisticated.
