Default The long and short of it

Why/how is the SV 10mm longer wheelbase than the SVS and overall length is 25mm longer (according to Handbook and Haynes)??? I thought the chassis were identical, just that the SVS had a top fairing?!!?!?!? Where does the nekked SV gets its extra length??

for the Pointies... the fork springs are different between the S and the naked, not to mention the yokes/tripple clamps; and so is the swingarm - but I'm not sure if that affects its length.

Hmm. I thought it was the other way round- the SVS being higher geared and, if memory serves, having an extra link in the chain.

Its curvys handbook/manual I have. Yep northy, it is that way round too!!! The topyoke looks diff between the SV and the SVS, perhaps it is just that?

Are they different yokes totally or could you put an SVS topyoke on a SV bottomyoke?

Talking curvy, the SVS had one tooth less on the rear sprocket but a shorter chain. Considering the effects in round figures you get........

The chain shortens it in effect by 2xpitch= 1.25" or 30mm ish, so around 15mm shorter run top and bottom.

The one less tooth is 5/8" or 15mm less distance round the sprocket, so assuming the chain wraps about half way round that's 7 or 8mm less length of chain wrapped, so it's equivalent to about half that added on each of the top and bottom runs.

When you put the shorter chain (-15mm wheelbase effect) and the one tooth less sprocket (about +4mm) you end up with the difference, or -10mm give or take.

I must get out more..............

Say what now?!?!!?

So basically they are the same bike/chassis, it is just the 1t variation on the rear sprocket and the difference in rear wheel 'adjustment' that makes for the different numbers??? Yeah, I can buy that logic Didn’t think Mr Suzuki would change the actual ‘hard wired’ sizes/geometry!!

The different looking topyoke is just a red herring then?

The naked curvy swingarm is about 10mm longer than the faired one.I measured them a few weeks ago when this came up on here, and sure enough it's true. The naked yokes sit 6mm lower on the forks as standard too,so the overall geometry is slightly different.

I never knew that. I'll get a naked one and swap, so I can go drag racing

I find it highly surprising too as I can't see the rationale behind it, also that Mr Suzuki would increase production costs by having 2 diff swingarms??? Goes against the grain, especially on a ‘budget’ bike?!?!

But if Biker Biggles has got his ruler out, he has got his ruler out!!!
