Was a bit bored Sunday so thought I would make something random in 3d. Chose some ornamental thingy that we have in the house, why do chicks buy so much of this crap? We must have about 20 different candle holder type thingies!!
![]() Anyhoo, took me about an hour to model and then about 3 more hours to get the materials and lighting done. Used 3DS max and Vray to render. Just do this stuff for a hobby at the moment but maybe one day I can get a job in the industry. Hope you like! ![]() |

I like it.
I've tried 3DSM before - I can do a fairly good job creating the models, but I'm useless at materials ![]() |

Very Nice - ever tried Rhino3d for modelling?
Purely NURBS based - really easy to use. Would agree on 3DSMax for Mats, would use Lightwave for final render. David

Coo-eck. More interest that I would have thought. So Lukemillar what do you do?
And thanks for the replies. I love Max for poly modelling but am also learning Maya at the moment too. Max os good as it's failry easy to use but Maya is superior when it comes to animation which is what I want to get into. Never used Rhino but used Cinema 4d when I first started out. Cheers! Dan |

![]() I know what you mean, for a hobbyist and for some prod work I am guessing that Max is good enough (seeing as it's mainly used for arch-viz and game production). But then it can do animation too. Checkout www.blur.com (I'm sure you know of them) they exclusively use Max for most of their projects. allthough I'm sure they have a host of custom scripts! What do you use for your profession and in what industry do you work (games, advertising etc)? I am starting to use Maya as it seems more capable for animation but it's a real steep learning curve, especially the node based architecture and that Hypershade!! Oh and of course any advice you can give would be most welcome, I'd love to work as a 3d artist. Don't have any formal training in art or design at all but I do enjoy it and have a passion for it. Cheers, Dan |

BUT...........if she did not go around IKEA buying all these weird shaped things that I have no idea of their purpose, I could model manly things like cars, tanks and naked chicks! ![]() ![]() |
