Default starting probs.....race can?

feel free to laugh & point at my stupidity here ...but could my starting problem have anything to do with th race can i have fitted .....

If I was you I would take the bike out side pour petrol over it and light and step back at least this way you'll save some money

No, but you do seem to be having a lot of hassles with this SV. May I ask is this your first bike?
First bikes are usually problematic, not coz the bike is shyte, but just it's part of your learning curve. Either you will overcome or buy something with more wheels and metal. Seen it many times before.
Buy a haynes manual and read it, buy mags and read them. Ignore the crap you read on the internet, some other fools anecdotal information isn't going to help you in the long run.
Biking to me is about self-reliance, adapt or die!
