Default 125cc biking....

Hey guys,

Well I was planning on buying a lovely Z1000 but mr bank manager has thrown a real spanner in the works. Anyway the long and short of it is that if I do buy the Z1000 I would have to sell my lovely hornet 600 and downgrade to something cheaper. I was thinking of something like a CG125. What do you guys think of commuting 66 miles each day on a 125? Does anyone do it? I would probably avoid the M'ways and take the back routes from Camberley to Uxbridge where I work.

I think you might enjoy it

You'll need a reliable 125cc bike and they don't come any better on that score than a CG125.

Got to bear in mind, though, that any 125cc bike will wear out much faster than your Hornet over bigger miles and that, relatively, it will have a more stressful life.

Old CG250 maybe? enough power to cope with 60-70mph without stressing the engine. I reckon a commute on a 125 is doable.

I did a 40 mile journey on a SR125 from along the A47 to Leicester when I was a learner. Only problem was lack of power up hills so I had use the crawler lanes to let lorries thunder past me.

Felt like going from a Mountain Bike or a Racing Bike to a BMX or 1970's Chopper.

My feet were too far forwards, my hands were too high, and it just didn't go forwards fast enough.

Actually, scrap what I said about hating it - it was kinda fun, just different from my SV (which felt SOOOOOO good to get back onto on Saturday after a 4 day absence).

Hmm what to do. The alternative is to keep the Hornet but not get the Zed. I do love the Hornet and it's still an amazingly fun bike. Not sure I could deal with not being able to beat cars away from lights. Oh why can't I just win the lotto!!!

sv_dan, how old are you? You strike me a being young like me and I cant see a CG125 lasting more than a month tops! My bro had one whilst learning and I had a few goes on it, gutless to say the least. It would be fine commuting a couple of miles but I cant see you going from a 'big' bike to a 125.

Great bike the CG though, did my bro fine until he took his test.

get a cb500 - probly wouldn't cost vastly more than a cg125 but is a much more capable bike for commuting or whatever. I had one as my first 'big bike' 'til some thieving ******* half inched it

I'm 28 going on 18. You're probably right but I would have a shiny Z1000 in the garage for the days when I just had to go faster. Hmm.....a difficult situation.

I'll probably just keep the Hornet. It's great fun and commutes well too.

Oh well, sorry Z1000 but you'll have to wait another year or so.
